my mom for putting up with me. I
will miss the faces of Sandwich, but

Dear Class of 2014,
\
Please accept my profound gratitude to the Class of 2014. Yours is an outstanding class composed of {:
exceptional young people. You have lead with remarkable dignity and expressed your belief in Blue Knight Pride a
every comer of your journey through high school years. Your sunny smiles, warm greetings, and genuine manner
filled our hallways and defined our classrooms setting the tone for the entire school. You made it a joy to enter thej;
door of Sandwich High School each morning. “
Your charisma and sincerity were recognized and applauded by our NEASC visiting team this past fall. Over
and over again, members of the visiting team commented on your friendly style, comfortable confidence, and
ability to articulate what matters to you about SHS. Yours was the senior class whose voice will forever hold strong
throughout the decennial report. Yours were the words which captured our core values and become part of our
indelible footprint. While every class to attend SHS becomes part of the fabric of its history, your collective and
intuitive understanding of performance, respect, integrity, dedication, and excellence not only defines who we are,
but also predicts who we will become. Your positive impact portends a wonderful future for our school.
Yours is a bright and diverse constellation. Among the many areas where your stars shone brightly is the
masterful work you did as senior mentors. Through your intuitive understanding of and assiduous attention to the !
details and nuances of leadership, you have earned the deserved respect of the freshmen, their parents, your parents*
and the entire community. You demonstrated your ability to nurture the future of SHS in ways which have ensured!
the success of the Class of 2017. Thank you for taking this important role so seriously, and for showing our
underclassmen what true teamwork can accomplish. You filled the news with stories of your impressive academic,'
athletic, and artistic prowess. Each and every step of the way, you put team before self and modeled the essence of f
collaboration and sportsmanship.
As impressive as your individual accomplishments are, they are matched by your ability to create a beautiful
choreography of cooperation among your classmates. The mutual support system built among all constituent group:
has created a class defined by unity, character, and shared purpose. Dominating all aspects of your success are you;
contagious enthusiasm and delightful sense of humor. Simply put, you are funny and fun. You are genuine, caring,:
young people growing up beautifully in a world which needs your collective energy and personal efficacy. The
town of Sandwich is privileged to call you its own.
I wish you the very best, as you have given your best each and every step of the way. We became a better
school the day you entered the front door. As you prepare to cross the stage, receive your diploma, and walk out
that door, please know you have left behind a legacy of extraordinary good will. Your future is bright and paved
with the pride that comes with working together to make an important difference. Thank you for the hallmark of jo;,
destined to be your enduring gift. Leave us knowing that you have left a mark of goodness, unity, and strength thati
will serve as a guidepost illuminating the path for those fortunate to call you their students and friends. Thank you
for taking Blue Knight Pride to a new level of unprecedented excellence.
With eternal gratitude and great respect,

Dear Class of 2014:
This letter is intended to be filled with sage advice, wise words, and perhaps a funny anecdote from me,
your Class Advisor. This, my graduates, is a tall order. You and I have grown together at Sandwich High
School. I came into this role during your sophomore year and with the help of your class officers, a truly
amazing cohort, we tackled: annual skits featuring Simba, bake sales with heroic profits, sports tournaments
where I finally learned to make a bracket. Sandwich Town Fairs complete with improvised costumes, and a
glamorous Prom. Thank you for including me in your growth, both personal and academic. I have loved taking
this epic journey with you.
Okay, the time has come for sage advice and wise words. Here we go.
You are changing direction. While this may be exciting or even torturous, life is full of changes in
direction. Living on Cape Cod allows us to experience the change in tide on a daily basis. At the beach, life is
different. A day moves not from hour to hour, but leaps from mood to moment. We go with the currents, plan
around the tides, and follow the sun. We search for the best ways to elongate the days and distill the memories
to make them last. The beauty of observing the grace of how a tide rolls in and pushes back out again is the
evanescence. Every wave comes in, then retreats. Every day promises, then turns its back and slips away.
Watching this change in motion is very much like watching you at this stage of your lives.
There is an old saying claiming that you never have to work if you are passionate about what you do. As
you head off in various directions, leaving the safety and certainty of Sandwich High School, I hope you
vehemently seek out what makes you happy and whole. In the process of doing so, remember that your first job
(or first several jobs) need not be perfect. You can learn about yourself, others, and life itself from any
experience.
To all members of the prestigious Class of 2014, you have tremendous integrity and a desire to make
things better in the world. My deepest desire is that you will use this in your futures. Your potential is
tremendous; you have a deeply memorable enthusiasm and an inquisitive nature. Your time as a Blue Knight
has brought you unforgettable moments: how to shine, how to shed your shells, and how to make mistakes and
recover. Use this! You are getting the chance to transform yourselves, but remember the moments where
Sandwich High School showed you your best selves. If you allow these moments to stick to you like sand, your
lives can become castles.
Chelsea Craig
Class Adviser
Class of 2014,
Four years ago, on September 7th, 2010 we entered Sandwich High School, which although we did
not know it at the time, would change our lives. We were all young, ambitious, maturing and curious. As
terrified freshmen, we wondered what the next day of experimental Humanities would be like. Back then,
we had no idea what we were about to experience together. We all had our own groups of friends, and
none of us could imagine how close our grade would become by our senior year. We have had many
times of laughs and smiles, and these past four years will be a time that we look back on for the rest of our
lives.
Memories vary from person to person, but the ones we have in common will last a lifetime. We will
all recollect seeing the entire Sandwich High School student body out at breakfast on late starts, the rush
out of the parking lot at 2:00, the rambunctious crowd at Canal Cup, Simba making an appearance in
every Homecoming skit, and the start of summer on the opening day of Twin Acres. Growing up in a
small town like Sandwich, this is the first time in most of our lives when we will venture beyond our Cape
Cod home. Do not let the memories stop here. As Dr. Seuss said, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile
because it happened.”
Before our high school career even began. Blue Knight Pride was a value instilled in us at freshman
orientation. Between the banners, posters, and handouts embellished with BKP, we could tell that school
pride would be something we held in esteem for our lives. We contributed to BKP in our own way by
creating the Class of Swag. We upheld the values of pride in our unprecedented skill at after prom clean-
up, the Senior Powder Puff team demolishing the Junior competition, hosting extremely successful
basketball tournaments, our dedication to performing a homecoming skit each and every year, and our
commitment to the town fair every summer, particularly when we created costumes for entertainment.
We don't really know how the future is going to unfold in this unique swan shaped origami design
we call life. Once our time here at Sandwich High School is completed, the future is uncertain. Some of
us will join the work force, others will enlist in the military to protect liberty and many will pursue higher
education. Abraham Lincoln once said, “In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in
your years.” So as we transition into the future, remember to make every day count and spend them doing
what you love.
Your Class Officers,
Nick Buttafuoco Mat Corsini,
Claire Gauthier, Matt Mullin,
Katie Payne and Tim Titcomb

Introducing...
“I don't want to be little again. But at the same time
1 do. I want to be me like I was then, and me as I am
now, and me like I'll be in the future. I want to be
me and nothing but me. 1 want to be crazy us the
moon, wild as the wind and still as the earth. I want
to be every single thing it's possible to be. I'm
growing and I don't brow how to grow. I'm living
but I haven't started living yet...” - David Almond

We cannot believe that you are already graduating from high school
and leaving us for college and beyond. We can remember you as
the shepherd in the church Christmas pageant: as Sue's favorite at
pre-school, always with your best friend Lindsey: and playing sports
galore, from soccer to softball, basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, and
your favorite of all, ice hockey. You are an amazing daughter and
sister, and we are incredibly proud of the person you have become.
You are so smart and so ready for the next phase of your life. Enjoy
what is to come, work hard as you always do, and stay true to
yourself. You are an amazing person, and if you follow your heart but
lead with your head, you will never go wrong. We love you forever!
Congratulations!
Love Always, Mom, Dad, and Lucy

Jake,
And when you finally fly away, we’ll be hoping
that we served you well.
For all the wisdom of a lifetime, no one can ever tell.
But whatever road you choose,
we're right behind you win or lose...
Forever young.
And in our hearts you will remain. Forever Young.

We have enjoyed every moment of your journey!
You're a beautiful, honest, and discerning young woman.
It has been an honor raising you. Pray, dream, persevere,
and love what you do!
Always remember who you are, and who loves you most!
Congratulations!
We love you!
... Mom, Dad, and Dana
Patrick,
My wish for you, is that life becomes
all that you want it to.
Your dreams stay big,
and your worries stay small.
You never need to carry
more than you can hold, and

"To stand at the edge of the sea, to sense the ebb and flow of the tides, to feel the breath of a mist moving over a great salt marsh,
to watch the flight of shore birds that have swept up and down the surf lines of the continents for untold thousands of years,
to see the running of the old eels and the young shad to the sea, is to have knowledge of things that are as nearly eternal
as any earthly life can be." -Rachel carson

For years, it has been the job of the yearbook to to tell the history of the school. “If it's not in the
yearbook, in five years it will be as though it didn't happen," we said. Now there is much more pressure
to keep a paper journal relevant. There are so many reasons to study the process, to develop the habit
of mind that leads to a finished product that is a window into the world.
Everyone can see what we did and thought throughout the year, and in the process of putting together a
tangible product for a real audience, staff members experience authentic learning every day.
Ask this year's editor, Jamie Costa, what she learned as she touched every single page in this book
except this one. working every single day from September to April. She'll probably tell you about
deadlines, and collaboration, and business management, copy editing, proofreading, file management,
adaptability, photo editing, and dealing with disappointment. Those are real world skills, in total
accountability, placed before a discriminating audience, the Class of 2014.
Thanks must go, as well, to all who helped with sections, and then went on to other tasks: the Crossman
family, the Klimm family, Dan Crowley of the Sandwich Enterprise, who always bails us out. Tom Davis
of Studio F50/Northern Images, the Sandwich Fire Department (thank you for the beach photo lift.
Chief Russell), to the Layo family. Owen Gaffney, Kasey Noonan. Katie Payne. Tim Titcomb, Charlie
Corkery. and to all the photographers who heeded our pleas for help. Thanks too, to our
administrators, Ellin Booras, Rich Metropolis, and Anne Wagner, for their unfailing support, and to
Brenda Kinchia of the front office, who steps in and helps, and never needs to be asked.
Final thanks go to Mike Kristy. SHS '14. for the cover photograph. We hope this is just the first of a
long career of published, and viewed, work.
